images in the Northstar Gallery are the work of Dennis W. Felty. Dennis is a native of central Pennsylvania and is a graduate of Elizabethtown College. He has been
a serious photographer all his life, choosing to keep his art his avocation. Dennis
has presented
his work regionally, in many one man shows. Dennis has also conducted major
photographic & video projects in India and Russia for the Evangelical Free Church of
America World Wide Missions. Dennis received a Telly award for his work in the Russian
Documentary. Other projects include photographing people living in state institutions for
the Pennsylvania Office of Mental Retardation as well as an essay on families using
"Family Preservation Services" for the Pennsylvania Office of Children &
Youth. Dennis is currently working on "The
Cathedral Project" photographing the historic Eastern State
Penitentiary. Dennis has created an essay on the The
Peoples Republic of China where he had the opportunity to visit psychiatric
hospitals.
Dennis
has completed a photographic essay on children living in orphanages
and psychiatric hospitals in Russia and Moldova as well as children living in
hidden societies in the
underground of Bucharest Romania.
Dennis'
current project "Of Flesh and Stone" is a fine art project
exploring the role of sensuality in memorial art.
Dennis
is an accomplished portrait photographer and has studied with Joyce Tennyson, Connie Imboden and Arnold
Newman. Dennis was recently selected to do the official portrait of Bishop
Rhoads of the Diocese of Harrisburg.
Dennis
served as an Air Force pilot for thirteen years and has over 2000 flight hours
in T-38, C-121 and C-130 aircraft. Dennis also serves in many leadership and
volunteer positions in both community and professional organizations. Dennis has
served as a founding board member and Past President of the
Open Stage of Harrisburg and currently serves as Board President of The Susquehanna Arts
Museum.
